Study of archival documents in the search room


Consulting, study and use of archival documents are regulated by valid legislative standards and rules for conduct in the search room of the Slovak National Archives.

Archival documents can be consulted or studied in the search room from Monday to Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Upon entry, researchers are requested to sign the register of search attendances. At the first attendance or change of the research topic, the researcher obtains and fill in reader's ticket, which becomes part of his/her registration file.

On the basis of study of finding aids marked in the  list of archival fonds and collections of the Slovak National Archives the researcher can choose archival documents for study. After filling in the request form for archival materials, which must be handed two days in advance of the visit, the requested materials are made accessible in the search room. The reference part of the library is keeping in the Archives search room and can be used by researchers during their studies.

The search room only provides reprographic copies of archival documents upon the approval of a search room personnel, and registers orders for photocopying. Reproduction of archival documents is charged according to tariffs for reprographic works specified in the supplement to the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior of the SR no. 9 on archival search and administrative fees from January 31, 2003.

Subject to availability, the search room offers researchers access to personal laptops. The use of cell phones in the search room is prohibited.
